Re: Factory Layout v2

Hi DC, Thank you for your kind words. This is the second version of this style of layout I've tried. The first was a few years ago now. There is a thread some where on here but most of the pics have long gone. I do have a few phoyos of the old layout here that might be useful to you: https://plus.go...

Re: Factory Layout v2

Cheers Simon, that image has some useful details I can use. Bizarrely, although I think I've used every combination of old, factory and interior and every similar wording I can think of I don't think I've ever seen that particular image so there must be a whole lot out there I'm not picking up. I'm ...

Re: Factory Layout v2

That's not a bad idea Simon with the horizontal bars - I might try that. I wanted the wiring 'up top' as it were to hide, or at least , minimise the look of the connections I had to make. I've seen wiring to lamps such as these to be in various guises, as you mentioned via lower support braces and f...

Re: Factory Layout v2

Morning all, Finally got around to taking pics of the latest updates on the factory layout. Apologies for the image quality but the iPhone didn't want to play today... Installed the main roof lights. They are showing a bit too bright here so I need to reduce the voltage a bit. I also might find a wa...

Re: Variant of the Carl Arendt SAP Line

Looks OK to me Les. I was expecting the varnish to just disappear straight through the foam but it looks likes you have found some varnish that is safe to use. I did something similar on an old layout except that I used the blue foam rather than the pink variety. With the blue foam I just needed to ...

Re: Factory Layout v2

Hi David, I suspect you are correct, the chairs are actually there but in most cases I've seen they are not really visible. There is usually an inner check rail and the gap between quickly gets filled up with crud and such like. I'm only testing on about 6" of rail for now to see if it is worth...

Re: Factory Layout v2

Hi all, Slow week on the layout this week but I have managed to get the supports on the left hand walk way fitted and a couple of test shots taken. None of this is permanently fixed in place yet as I still have to detail the walls with various pipe/cable runs etc so please excuse a spurious gaps/mis...

Re: Factory Layout v2

Thanks Chris, I am steadily putting together some fuse boxes, electrical cupboards etc so these will appear later. For now though I've taken the plunge and done the factory floor. I've used a method first described by Micheal Mott (Original post: http://forum.gn15.info/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=1158&a...

Re: Factory Layout v2

Thanks Geoff, appreciate the feedback. A bit more progress over the weekend, handrails added and a few details added. Also started weathering the structures slightly. http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f6/stevegwelch/IMG_3426_zpshggfaphz.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f6/stevegwelch/IMG_3428_z...

Coming along nicely Bill. The open wagons look quite interesting I might have to investigate getting a couple of those.

Re: Factory Layout v2

Thanks Simon, saved me hunting for it. Some progress today, I took Chris' suggestion and turned the under stairs area into a storage cupboard. Good suggestion Chris I think it works well. Just loosely fitted at the moment so some of the angles are a bit weird. I will add boxes and clutter accordingl...

Re: Factory Layout v2

Hi Simon, I've seen your inset track system and I will definitely consider using it on the "next" layout, I'm on a bit of a budget on this one so I used track I already had from old projects. Thank you for reminding me about Michaels inset track method though as I had forgotten about that....

Re: Factory Layout v2

Hi Simon, yes the track will be inset although as to the method I'm still undecided - possibly plaster. A further quick update this morning as I've made a start on the walkway adjoining the stairway, still some bracing and details to add: http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f6/stevegwelch/IMG_3409_zps...

Re: Factory Layout v2

Thanks Hans I will try.... I've started on the staircase this evening that will sit along side the cabin. First I knocked up a layout drawing in Photoshop to use as a template and then cut out the two stretchers and foot plates from 1mm polystyrene sheet: http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f6/stevegw...

Re: Factory Layout v2

Evening all, Decided to test my plans for the various lights I'll need for the layout by starting with the fluorescent light in the cabin. I cut three LED's from one of those rolls of LED strip, mine was 11m long so you get quite a few LED's for the money. These were then stuck, after having wires a...

Re: Factory Layout v2

Thanks for the feedback Les - I don't think you truly leave Gn15 behind once it has got under your skin..... Latest developments on the layout: Applied the wasp front end to the loco, didn't come out too badly with just a bit of touching up to sort out. I've ordered an SLM figure to replace 'Biggles...

Re: Variant of the Carl Arendt SAP Line

Hi Les, Micro is looking good, just read through the whole thread as I'm catching up on all things Gn15 after being busy with other things for a while. Quick question - what varnish did you use on the MDF? I recently tried some that just sat on the surface and eventually cracked off so I'd be intere...

Re: Factory Layout v2

Thanks for the feedback guys. Latest on the loco. Basic paint scheme applied. Should have mentioned earlier that it is based on the Hornby 0-4-0 'Smokey Joe' chassis. Not a bad runner with the extra weight stuffed into the bodywork and a feedback controller even if it does sound like an angry dog wh...
