By all accounts, a splendid weekend. I worked on Sunday and managed to wave at Colin twice, once whilst piloting Mountaineer and once guarding a Badger/Mountaineer double-header. I've been officially "taking it easy" after having my appendix out 2 weeks ago, so wasn't allowed... I mean, th...

Re: Gauges

Hang on... What I don't have is program that reduces size of image mine only seem to reduce the number of pixels. But Gerry - reducing the number of pixels IS reducing the size, surely? If you print a 300-pixel-wide image at 300dpi (dots per inch, a dot = a pixel) it'll be an inch across; if you shr...

I recommend Irfanview very highly indeed. It'll let you view just about any format of image, it loads a lot quicker than the default Windows viewer and is a heck of a lot more useful! For instance, using space/backspace to flick through a folder full of photos :) You can crop, resize, flip, rotate, ...

When one of Nikitas assasinations goes wrong she has to call on the services of a "cleaner" (played my Jean Reno) ... Now if memory serves me correctly the cleaning is rather messy to say the least. I believe it involved a bath and a lot of acid, if I recall correctly. Damn good film. Dam...

Once you've got the brickword weathered to the same level as the window, I reckon that'll be damn near indestinguishable from the real thing (or or one of Chuck's!).

Showtime tomorrow and the cupola/turret has to be finished. :?: "What is the siding on the turret made from". :?: That's lapped lead, that is. Just sheets of the stuff folded around and tacked into place. I expect you could achieve the same result with very thin plasticard.

George, all this talk of portable CD players.... mp3 players are far more reliable and you can barely walk down the street these days without someone offering you a free iPod Nano. Failing that, eBay is rife with 2nd-hand mp3-players in various guises. You could maybe look at a couple of little ampl...

I'd reply to MOG's post, but I'm not allowed  I think it's a great idea. What we can do will probably depend on a) the number of folks who attend, b) when it is, c) how much we're willing to pay and d) how big a favour I can pull :) Item d) has been given a significant boost since this news 8)...

I didn't think there was much in it between O scale and G scale? O is 1:43, 1:45, or 1:48; G is 1:22.5 or 1:24. That means that 10cm in G will represent 2.25 to 2.4m, whereas in O it would be 4.3m to 4.8m. Or to put it another way, 1m in O is represented by ~22mm; in G it's ~44mm. So it's only twic...

Steve, that fencing is truly superb. Any trade secrets involved in producing it, or is it simply strips of wood very well painted?

The stacked slabs are a neat touch too :)

And showing two diametrically opposite opinions, which is hard as I respect the both of yous' modelling creds :?

Rather than fill up Brian's thread with more off-topic discussion, I've started a new thread specifically on the subject

(F) To Prime or Not to Prime?

This started out as a question in another thread, but the advice that appeared was so good -- and showed two such different opinions -- that I thought it worth starting a new thread. One thing that's been stopping me is the question of "to prime or not to prime" and if so, what with? I've ...

Tamiya thinners are very expensive, it's only made up of Isopropanol with something added to slow evaporation, Hmm... it smells notably different though. Still, if it does the job, it's certainly a lot cheaper! Brian - Thanks for the illustrated commentary on your painting. I've yet to take a brush...

Corrected, seems I have had it wrong for 40 years or so :) As grammatical transgressions go, it's a fairly minor one. After all, Eric Partridge himself says of it: Rooves also was common in our early literature, and is (like loaf, loaves) consistent with the genius of our language; a writer that pr...

Re: Modular Layout - Ideas Poll on "Modelling Matters&q

We would need to decide on a few standards and, as Andy says, a theme. Absolutely. I also think it'd make a lot of sense to stay with whatever is decided for the group as a whole so that whatever we create locally can be used in the Big Layout. does anybody know a friendly exhibition manager that w...
