Re: Bilco's Bodgements #1

Another week, a few more little fiddly bits to show ... https://i.imgur.com/xajmorm.jpg ... and some of the earlier ones have been stuck together in a vaguely Heywood-Ursula-ish way ... https://i.imgur.com/R76nZEj.jpg ... and a bottom view ... https://i.imgur.com/ITh2vT1.jpg I told you that lots of ...

Re: Bilco's Bodgements #1

Progress continues, albeit slowly. There are lots of little 'bits' to fettle and fabricate ... https://i.imgur.com/x5UaRvw.jpg https://i.imgur.com/gyoa4rM.jpg Still, at some stage comparatively soon all this might get assembled into something vaguely resembling a Heywood Ursula ... Hours of fun ...

Re: Bilco's Bodgements #1

Onwards and upwards - I filled in the wheels. The main filling was Milliput, with Liquid Green Stuff to level the surface, hence the rather piebald effect ... Then I put the footplate on to the chassis and checked it against Lady Frideswide. That showed that the front of the footplate was 1mm low, s...

Re: Bilco's Bodgements #1

Right, here you go Les ... I make the beading from 0.8mm x 1.5mm styrene strip - the upstands are 1mm, so there is a little overhang on the outside ... https://i.imgur.com/VqcdtYX.jpg ... ready for action. The little bottle contains Plastic Weld. First up, I round one edge, which will go on the outs...

Re: Bilco's Bodgements #1

With the 1mm styrene sheet in hand I quickly cut out the sheeting for the sides of the body (not forgetting to include the cab sides) and glued them onto the body ... https://i.imgur.com/aDdrqIP.jpg Not quite so quickly, I cut two little bits to make the upstands on the front of the tanks, and when ...

Re: Bilco's Bodgements #1

While I was waiting for the delivery of 1mm styrene sheet I turned my attention to the Hornby 08 diesel loco that was included in that mystery package. After a bit of fiddling I discovered how to get the body off, then undid a few screws and voila ... https://i.imgur.com/NpMLM9Z.jpg What I thought w...

Re: Bilco's Bodgements #1

A little more progress to report ... https://i.imgur.com/rI3JMxZ.jpg The body sides have been clad in 1mm sheet to replace what was so frenziedly sanded off a few days ago. Now I need to overlay this cladding with some more 1mm sheet with the upstands - but I've run out, and am waiting on Eileen's E...

Re: Bilco's Bodgements #1

Yesterday evening I stopped messing around and glued the two parts of the Ursula-like bodywork together. I drilled holes in the ends of the two pieces to take short lengths of 2mm metal rod, applied copious amounts of Araldite, and pushed the parts into close proximity ... After a few minutes I real...

https://i.imgur.com/CVL0Mom.jpg Right, major surgery over, the blood's been rinsed off the floor and walls, and I seem to have roughly the same number of fingers I started with ... Bilco's Bodgements #1

Estate Elongate, aka the Berger Hall Miniature Railway, is in an exhibitable state now, and I seem to have lots of time at home for some reason, so I've been casting about for some modelling activity to keep me amused. I expect I'll play with a few things that have caught my interest for one reason...

Hi Chris - try soaking them in undiluted Dettol disinfectant over night. The paint should become soft and can be scraped and wiped off. Dettol contains isopropol alcohol and another chemical which seems to dissolve even acrylic paint.

Dettol is also good hand sanitizer ...

Re: Estate Elongate

Yes, I was wondering whether to hide the Rotaverser, but decided that people would probably want to see if it actually works ... Anyway, after all the scenic work and Rotaversing, and as the sun was shining, I decided to have a little running and photo session this afternoon ... https://i.imgur.com/...

Re: Estate Elongate

Well, I've spent the last two weeks fiddlin' and fettlin' with the Rotaverser Mk II, including a few days wasted with sticking thick card onto the trackbed, and then discovering that it was too thick and ripping it all up again ... Anyway, the track is now down, wired and tested, so a few photos are...
