Not a bad weekend. Good flow of punters through the turnstiles, bit of something for everyone. Got an invite to another show, too.
DCRfan helped man my layouts, and he also got in some quality modelling time.

Re: Pauls Card Challenge Layout

Oh no :( RIP. I've been stuck in bed for five days with seasonal cough and cold so probably feel a bit like the expired motor bogie. But hey only 12 years of running, what is Bachmann doing these days :P Providing the ills disappear I'm still planning in coming over to help this weekend. Paul Silve...

Re: Pauls Card Challenge Layout

Question. How long will a Bachmann Cable Car motor bogie last on a NZ bush tramway ?

Answer. 12 years.

Yep, DCR's tramway jigger finally quit today while
'testing' it for next weekend's show. With some foresight, I bought a Bachmann Cable Car when in San Francisco in 2009.
Running sweet now.

Re: Back to the Workface

Soon to be world famous, again.

Bumped into a mate of mine who casually mentioned that he'd acquired the 'remains' of Mt Albert Tramway. It is his intention to return it to the show circuit.

Presentation, on the hoof. Table from lounge, complete with table cloth. Reasonable layout, with signage, and a back screen flogged from out back of the hall. Rather tasteful, I thought.... and no barriers (and no damage, either).

Ginglenook Jr.

Many moons ago, Carl Arendt came up with a 'micro' version of the famous Inglenook shunting puzzle. I cobbled up one in G gauge on an old door, and took it around to a few exhibitions for the punters to try their luck. After some time, due mainly to the awkwardness of transporting the board, I recyc...

Re: A New Foreign Layout

Don't it really get to you. I had all sorts of bother on doing an English roof for the church before settling on the easiest option (well, it had to be finished for the show). Finally get something acceptable, and go on show. Walk across the hall to one of the traders...and there in stamped plastic ...

Re: A New Foreign Layout

Looking very smart. A nice light, bright venue too. All too often it’s somewhere with just electric light, perhaps a litte gloomy, and thus not great for photography here in the UK. Cheers, The 'English' conditions were outside.... it was raining. For once, the Wellington Garden Railway Group runni...

Re: A New Foreign Layout

Survived transport to Rail-Ex, and met with the necessary oohs and aahs from members of the engineering fraternity. So, I'm happy.
Another layout had some wires disconnect, but that's fixed, and it's all go for the show.

On the night before the night, she's all right.
Oversprays, and slight paint run all sanded back and touched up.
Anchored to the foundation.

Re: A New Foreign Layout

Roof ribbed. Painting tomorrow night. Tomorrow, been and gone. The church is finished (apart from a small paint touch up). I'm happy with it.... 48 hours to show set up. Tried doing the roof with Tamyia Gun Metal. This colour had potential, a nice uneven drying metallicy shine, but it was going to ...

Re: A New Foreign Layout

Roof now marked out for the 'lead ribs'. Just the pencil lines give a good impression of the final outcome. Stripwood, or plastic, from the model shop tomorrow, and a 'lead looking' paint from the rattle can place.

And, all this by the way, is only one of 5 layouts that I will be showing.

Re: A New Foreign Layout

DSC_0113 (2).JPG Just about what the punters will see. Roof will be imitation lead sheet.... add ribs every 3 feet or so, paint lead colour. The lead/grey trim came about by default. I'd tried painting the window sills, but didn't work out. So I scraped the paint off, exposing the original plastic ...
