I know it's only vaguly related, but seem to recall a company in Railway Modeller doing working locking frames in brass for what i thought was pretty good value for money. They also did a computer program to figue out which parts you needed for you layout's needs.

I believe the loco has a single cylinder engine, coupled to a hydrostatic gearbox.
