Until after the uppermill show there will be no more photos so come along & see the layout


Today i have fitted & wired the point motors
& finished fitting the frame work to hold the tent/black cloth over the layout to help stop light i do not want shining on the layout

i have also started fitting out the interia of the saloon with a stage & bar top

I had wired the saloons light bulbs (4x 12 volt) in serese so each bulb was only gettinf 3 volts I was not happy with the outcome so i have re-wired then so there are in sets of 2 this time & not 4 so gey 6 volts each I like the look better

Today i have been building the rig to holed the pipe work on the water tower
woodwork now finished on the water tower still need to paint the pipework & add ropes plus if i get time before the 1st show the bands around the tank

well all the stock is boxed & all the loose items removed from the layout next is to undo all the bolts & crate it up ready for its 1st show in Uppermill on the 23rd/24th june

heres is a history i have come up with for the layout to go in show programs let me know what you think of it



Coombe Rock & Minerals
On30

Coombe Rock is set in Arizona's Monument Valley in the early 1900's think of all those old cowboy films

(Coombe Rock is An alternative name for a solifluction gravel
Which is a heterogeneous, unsorted mixture of angular rock fragments in a matrix of clay or silt. Many such gravels form featureless spreads at the foot of higher ground, but they can take fan-like forms)

In 1892 Close to one of the Bute large deposits of Platinum, Gold & Radium was found in the Coombe Rock So over the next 10 years the town of Coombe Rock grew up to house the workers & a railway was built to take the gravels away to be processed the line was also extended so that the line to the deposits became a branch line which left the main line at the town of Coombe Rock

Open 10:00 to 17:00 each day (trains operating every 40 minutes 11:00 to 16:20), light refreshments available in the shop/café

Now having completed 2 shows with the layout I have found i am not happy with the fiddelyard the slding yard takes to long to get the next train out so i am going to place some curved points on the curves so all been well i will still have the same amount of sidding & if i am lucky i may get more

You have never shown any track plan or photos of the fiddle yard, so its hard to work out what you are talking about.

Do both tracks on the right hand side join together again in the fiddle yard?
If they do it would be quick to change trains over by storing one on each line.

At the right hand end the lines went on to the 5 track sliding fiddelyard
if line 1 was lined up for the outer line then track 4 was lined up for the inner track
when track 3 was lined up with the inner or outer track then no other track was lined up

WOW, that a fairly big and impressive fiddle yard out back.

I think you have already solved the problem your self by adding a point on the left and joining another set of tracks to the fiddle yard.

Here's another option you may not have thought of; cut the fiddle yard down into two independant boards.
Then you can leave the trains running across one board, while you take your time moving the other one. And there will only be one set of tracks per board to line up so it might not be so hard getting it lined up.

Well just got kicked out of the loft
I have now got the new fiddelyard track layed & wired but still need to cut the track over the base board jounts

Tomorrow i hope to cut the track & then give it a good test

when away over the school hols the cars (volvo 940) gearbox lost 3rd & 5th gears so i have to by a new cat
tomorrow i hope to take down the lay out to see if i can get it iin the new car and still use 3 seats

Next week end the layout is out at a show & with the newer car i have 2 seats plus te drivers seat so my 9 year old son can come along to run the layout I will try & get some new photos as i have added some more lighting to the layout

I now have just over a week to paint these before the layouts next show at Mansfield then the following week at Narrow Gauge North
