OPEN DAY 2015
19th & 20th September is the date for your diary.
The LBLR site will be open from 11am to 4pm with FOUR locos in operation - 2 of the LB fleet and 2 visiting.
Hopewell Colliery museum and Clearwell Caves will also have loco's and stock running/on display too.
If that's not enough for your narrow gauge/industrial needs - then visit The Perrygrove Railway too for their gala weekend!

Stockers,
If you want to see 'Issin Sid then you need to get yourself to a Statfold barn Railway open day. See
http://www.statfoldbarnrailway.co.uk/news.php for the dates of the 2016 open days.
If anyone has not seen 'Issin Sid, this is the wee beastie.

It goes for about 400 yards on one filling of air, but has now been given a compressor in a mine tub to drag along so it gets let loose on the Statfold main line.
I reckon something like a Hornby (ex-Dapol) L&Y "Pug" or the High Level Kits chassis for the "Pug" could do as the under-pinnings for a Gn15 version. There's a Hornby "Pug" in my cupboard, hmmmm............

Cheers Steve,
I'm not far from Statfold, so it's definitely

time when I admit to not having got myself there yet.
Hopefully soon!
Cheers,

Back in January a rumbling was heard in the Forest from the direction of the Lea Bailey Light Railway... Due to the heavy rainfall, water had built up such pressure behind the rock fall in the mine, that it pushed the rocks down and surged forwards, bursting the metal mine doors open, bending one off its hinges and pushing the rocker shovel and wagons out of the mine where they then derailed off the track. Repairs have now been made to the doors and an extra drainage ditch dug. One of the mine doors now sports an open metal grid to allow water to flow out, should it happen again. The area was left under several inches of silt which is in the process of being cleared away.
Some pictures i took last Sunday -
More pictures and info are on the railways facebook page
Cheers

The mine workings were about 650/700 yards deep into the hillside but was blocked at around 475 yards in by a roof fall of rocks many years ago. The water flows all year round at about the same rate from the mine, along one side of the 2' track and into a drain just before the mine entrance doors, taking it underground to the other side of the site where it comes out again and falls into a stream.
Behind the rock fall, where the roof had come in, it was full of water from the floor to the roof (approx 6ft). The force of the water pushed the rock fall down and flooded out through the locked metal doors! It pushed the Eimco rocker shovel and a couple of waggons with it too!!
Another reminder of how powerful nature is ..!

Thanks for the link Roger.
That buildup of water was dangerous! I'm glad it didn't give way while you were in there. Scary. Maybe the breakout pulled some of the muck from the roof fall area. Hopefully it will drain properly from now on.

My whimsical mind is full of Emett, Heath Robinson (new museum now open) and the wonderful wonderful world of PBLR and Mr Peter Barnfield.. Dragging myself to reality (must i?) and there are pictures and moving pictures (never catch on) on the LBLR facebook (farcebook) page and website on this, the world wide wobble of said narrow gauge line, hidden deep in the Forest of Dream..
Salutations to you, one and all as i continue to sow static grass on my 9ft long by 1ft wide dithering that it Lord Spokeshave's Estate Railway on a wall mounted plank with little in the way of punctuation or spelling. Yet it brings rhubarb and our dear Cooks special custard to the masses via its link to the "mainline" (whatever that is meant to be) - so go forth fellow Gn15'ers and create a world where all is good and life is simple and long live Whimshire and all that. Eat custard and be happy.
Thank you
Roger?

Oh dear, someone's found a new bot of cooking sherry, haven't they?
Sounds as if all good in F of Dream. Must get down again on a sunny day next year.
