Rail-Taxi for the KEG

The Kraehwinkel Eisenbahn Gesellschaft (KEG) aquired some new rolling stock.

Since Olivers design is more or less in 1 : 24, I had to enlarge it to 1 : 22,5, printed it on adhesive paper and glued it to 1mm clear plastic material (Vivak, made by Bayer)



My main concern was, how to actually fit passengers and a driver into such a small vehicle. And how do they get in and out. Where to place doors.





There is not much room for baggage, so it had to go on top of the roof




You neverknow, where the critter will run next, so I made the advertising board on one side in French.



On the right side I drew the window line 10 mm lower and installed a central door. Made the driver compartement door removable, as I am not sure yet, if I need or want one.




The unit runs with a small Austrian made Hallig drive. Door hinges are from Ozark, window frames from oak 2 x 1 mm stripwood. Various bits and pieces from the junk box.

I do like that lady in pink in the last photo' - I'd swear blind she is checking me out? - if experience, reality and common sense didn't dictate otherwise of course!!

The Pink Lady, her name is Iris, is part of a Preiser series of figures
representing people of the early 20th Century



Unfortunately today Preiser mainly makes contempory types in 1 : 22,5 or ex-chancellers in 1 : 24. They even offer a portrait of the present Pope, something I do not really need in my model world.

I'll have to echo Little Andi and say a cracking model Juergen. I particularly like the Stagecoach style baggage arrangement.

Plenty of style and inspiration. Until relatively recently I hadn't been over fond of such designs and then lo, the scales fell from my eyes to such an extent that I had to go out and buy the snappily titled:

The light railway railcar in western Europe: from inception to maturity

(helped with a Christmas prezzie Amazon voucher)

I also like the baggage on top. The whole thing makes me think of the Portesfoote & Bunting railcar drawings by Peter Barnfield. He built at least three using card in 16mm scale.

Lastly (and why didn't I think of this before) the sideways seating of the driver is a very neat idea. One to be copied one day.

Baggage on top of wagons or railcars make sense. Most of the time we look down on models and the roofs are not very inspiring.

My friend JL Toeffelholm finally mounted a Lipo-battery for the RC-Deltangisation on top of my railcar.





Found some baggage in a Preiser box (Art-Nr. 45223)



Looks as if I need a wagon for some more passengers.

The Kraehwinkel Bug, a kit rom the Lasergang-Shop, seems to have the right dimensions.



Now I have to make up my mind, if I repaint the blue one or buy annother on to make it orange-yellow.

It is funny, I never planned to build a railcar. I only wanted to try out, how to transport 4 passengers with baggage plus a driver in minimzm space.





And of course, I am very impressed by the minimum seize and the quality of the Deltang RC equipment.

Finally got around to repaint a Kraehwinkel Bug for my rail taxi.



Picture was taken at the secret Gartenzwerg-Plantation in a remote corner of the layout.

This gives me inspiration for a second Gn15 line on the Kent & North Wales Light Railway, linking station to hotel at the harbour, rather like the North Sea Island narrow gauge railways in Germany did - only slightly nore gnarrow.
