Thinking about it, I think I have seen similar designs for smoking fish, probably not related though .

Haven't got picture exactly like what DCRfan has mentioned. But the style he has done is very common also in Australia during the logging days. But a very close version is the following which is one of the Stockmans shacks in the Victorian hi-country which southpass mentions. Many of them may have been burnt down due to the recent large fires in the area! These are certainly not used to smoke fish however!

That building would make a very nice model aswell. Nice and simple, would look at home just about anywhere around the globe. Think that may go in the inspiration folder .

The chimney is a common design dating back to the first European settlement in NZ. Originally built using green slab wood later replaced by corrugated iron.

You say European Paul BUT that design of Chimney I can find nowhere in the UK, maybe it is of French origin or New World

Not from this new world, can`t make a step without stumbling over rock so thats what chimneys are made of around here.
That is begging to be modeled, I think the dog does make the scene though, that and the dude with the gun, "are you from the bank?"

I'm figuring there are a lot of high speed winds in the area. Small outlet at the top to keep the draft from sucking the windows and doors in. Another bit of evidence is the wind break on the right end of the porch. Keeps the wind from blowing G'ma down the road.

Spent a few hours with a bread knife and a hot glue gun making a box designed to carry and display the layout.

Luckly a monthly pallet sized delivery of medical supplies provides a ready supply of cardboard I plan to add inner walls diagonally across the corners to provide storage pockets and increase rigidity of the structure.

Setting up the control for the single set of points has been frustrating. After realising the throw of the blades was more than the movement of the standard electrical switch I was using to switch power and control the blades a call from Gavin last night put be on the right track. It sure doesn't look pretty but it works.



Now to figure out the camouflage.

It is all to do with levers

A hollow pile of logs on top os the switch or a scrub bush infront of it
may be possoble solutions.
Is the switch blade hinged, and if so is it on top of the sleeper.

Yeah a pile of logs was the sort of thing I was thinking of.

The fixed ends of the blades are slipped into rail joiners that have been slightly widened and the blades are prevented from sliding out by thin wire with the ends soldered to the blades and the fixed rail. The other end of the blades are held in gauge by the tie bar with is attached to the blades by brass pins soldered to the rail.

It has had a special spell from a well known wizard to make it look right no matter where in the world you view it

I've decided the open fronted shed looked a little too contrived and unprototypical so the front is being walled in and fair few new ferns planted but they just seen to get swallowed up.

The porch on the front of the building (photo with dog ) would be a nice compromise. You are going to need a lot of ferns to cover all that ground Could you fake some in the middle and just use the detailed ones near the edges?

The cardboard shanty hut and head office of the as yet named Silverpine Company has gone (or it fell down, I'm not saying ) to be replaced by this bright shiny new portable sawmill
