Ok the next stage is the one where I'd like your opinions.



It may seem drastic but the idea is that the topiary screens the view of the shed at the bottom of the garden from Tetley grange itself. In reality at a show you will be able to see over the hedge as you get closer.



It should also encourage viewers to look for other angles such as through the door



and around the back



So what do you think

Think I would lower the height of the hedge a little Jon and the fancy topiary in pots/urns at each end. It feels a bit large for the small area, just my opinion .

I think the hedge is too much. As previously suggested, something lower with a viewing apperture would work better.

OK, my Ha'penny's worth. I like the idea but I do think that the hedge is a bit large, especially with the topiary on top. My (only mine you understand ) thought would be to lower the sides a bit, and have the sculpture sitting under an arch in the hedge, the arch would allow a view of the shed past the sculpture. The ball topiary could still be used, can't see a place for the peacock though

This is my favorite, it keeps your original intention of using the hedge as a screen, but the hedge is small enough it does not dominate the layout. I like this one alot.

One more idea to try would be to remove the hedge under the topiary. Keep the center portion, just get rid of the small "wings" under the topiary. Hopefully that makes sense, if not, too bad.

The one with the hole gives the layout a lighter feel but also a bit more drama as you can peek through, and the different levels give it some added variety as well.

In between making snow I've also been playing with the bricks. As received the bricks were too uniform in colour. I gave them my usual wash with GW inks but unfortunatley they dried before soaking in. However I did have a black toner cartridge soaking in cleaner so I dropped a few in overnight. This led to other experiments, the results being below.



From left to right.
Natural
PVA/water wash
Good coating of hairspray
Yellow printer refill ink left overnight
Black printer refill ink left overnight

Yup, I like that, though I would move the topiary out a bit further, maybe having the outside edge in line with the edge of the base part, or am I being too neat.

Interesting results with the bricks, think I will give that a go myself, if I ever find the box of bricks again that is

That's closer to what I was thinking of, but in my minds eye I had the sculpture under the arch and the topiary closer to the ends of the hedge

How do you think it would look if the topiaries were only a single ball?

Ill second that, try just a single ball for the topiarty. I thought of suggesting that yesterday, but since I know nothing of topiary I decided to bite my tongue. And it hurt.

I thought that too but when I tried it half of the sculpture was blocked from a standing position. I may build a lower pedestal.

I've done more yellows and I'll mix in more naturals and less blacks in the final version.
